Allen Dowhie started his Obstacle Course Racing journey in 2015 at a Warrior Dash race. Since then he has competed in different distances but has focused solely on Spartan Race. In 2016 he decided to pursue his Spartan SGX coaching certification. The main goal was to help increase his knowledge base for the sport and to train new, upcoming racers. After a year of coaching he decided to pursue his level-two Spartan SGX and Spartan Obstacle Specialist certifications from Spartan Race. He has been involved with coaching at the Spartan Race SGX guided race heats, Spartan workout tour, and Spartan Race open house events. He also works with Spartan social media as the SGX moderator for their community pages. When not competing in Obstacle Course Race you can find him guest coaching at local gyms in the tristate area. His athletic background comes from playing soccer for 12 years as well as coaching travel soccer.
What was your first obstacle race and why did you do it?
My first race was a Warrior Dash Race in 2015. A few of my friends talked me into doing it with them. Since that moment I was hooked and have competed in races every year since that first event.
If you could run an obstacle race anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would like to try one of the Iceland Spartan Races.
If you hadn't found OCR, in what sport(s) would you be competing?
I would still be competing in recreational level soccer and coaching travel soccer.
What are your goals with OCR?
My goal with OCR is to stay active and compete regularly. With my Spartan certifications, I am transitioning into coaching OCR athletes as well as helping first time racers.
