Ryan Woods is one of the most talented athletes in Obstacle Course Racing (OCR). Well-respected by his racing peers, Ryan is a constant podium threat in all race formats. He is also known to be somewhat of a character as you can see here in his self-written Bio: "Ryan Woods was born feisty on a dreary March night in the late 1970's. After nearly killing his mother during childbirth he continued to torture his family through his developmental years with hyperactivity and a touch of pyromania. One day, in order to keep him away from home a few more hours, he was offered a new set of ski's to join the running team. Thus began his odyssey into endurance athletics. Over the years he took his aerobic ADD to the track, the roads, the mountains, and eventually obstacle course racing. Now you can see him lining up at the biggest races with the shortest shorts."
Other Sports Highlights
What was your first obstacle race and why did you do it?
Tough Mudder Wintergreen in 2011. Back then they said you had to qualify to run WTM which meant finish in the top 20% of a regular event. Odd, since the event wasn't timed. Instead of results, you just emailed TM staff and said you were in top 20%. I did that, and thus qualified for WTM and the following month I showed up and nearly died.
What drives you to compete?
I typically drive myself in a Honda Accord, but most races I fly to so I take whatever rental car is cheapest. Last race I was upgraded to a 4runner :)
If you could run a World Championship OCR anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would love to run one in Napa Valley in California.
What interesting fact do most fans of OCR not know about you?
I think the most interesting thing about me is my cat. He's super cool.
If you hadn't found OCR, in what sport(s) would you be competing?
The Beer Mile.
What are your goals with OCR?
To win everything.
